Highlights of the 2023 J League YBC Levain Cup Final MDP Special Issue
Third victory in seven years!
It's already been 7 years since we won on penalty kick at Saitama Stadium.
It has been 20 years since his first crown.
Aside from the J1 League, the J League Cup has been won relatively few times among the big titles. He has advanced to the finals six times, which is a lot.
Yes, this is the seventh time this season that they have advanced to the J.League Cup final. That's why this is the 7th edition of the MDP (Urawa Reds Official Matchday Program) finals special edition for the J League Cup.
The editing theme is the same each time. "We'll win!" That's all we can say. However, it is not easy to differentiate within this environment.
What's different about this J.League YBC Levain Cup Final MDP special issue?
The biggest difference is that he has won the previous two championships. Up until now, we have mostly created MDP special issues based solely on one past championship experience.
Additionally, only three players (Shusaku Nishikawa, Shinzo Koroki, and Takahiro Sekine) who have won the previous championship (2016) remain on the team.
So, I received a long message from an Urawa Reds alumnus who has experience in each championship. Keisuke Tsuboi, Tatsuya Tanaka, and Hideki Uchidate were the winners in 2003. From 2016, they are Tomoya UGAJIN, Yosuke Kashiwagi, Tadaaki Hirakawa, and Tadanari Lee. (Honorific title omitted, in order of uniform number at the time)
For example, I was able to hear from Mr. Tsuboi in detail about his feelings from the time he returned to the pitch after suffering a serious injury with bleeding in the 36th minute of the first half of the final. Mr. Hirakawa asked me, as the oldest member of the team, what were you conscious of in your words and actions? I was also able to hear how he prepared as a player.
And finally, the 2016 finals MVP, Tae-sung Lee, also known as Chun-sung. He plays for Albirex Niigata Singapore and has announced his retirement after this season, but after winning the Singapore Premier League, he is still playing in cup matches. I asked him to do an interview.
It is well known that during the penalty shootout in that final, he asked Wataru Endo, who was the fifth kicker, to take his turn and was refused, but it was his turn as the fourth kicker who asked him to do so. It must have been very troublesome for Endo to have been told this.
And the deciding factor for winning the MVP award was the equalizing header from a corner corner. His goal on the first play after coming on as a substitute was impressive, but there was an incredible secret behind that substitution!
Also included is a long interview with Jumpei Hayakawa, the Reds' first high school student to win the New Hero Award.
Previously, this was not possible as the award was announced the day before the finals, but this time I was able to listen to their stories at length.
In addition to reviewing the 10 Levain Cup matches so far and looking back on the past 6 finals, we also provide information on the methods introduced from the 2021 Emperor's Cup final special issue and the writers of the teams that our opponents faced in the semifinals. The corner where you can get it will be the same this time as well. There is also a column by the familiar Yoshiyuki Osumi. The regular page ``PLAYERS VOICE'' has been expanded.
Tickets used to be issued the day before the final, but they have been available for purchase inside the stadium on the day of the race. Please check it out before the game.
After the game, please sing "We are Diamonds" at the New National Stadium, perhaps to reach Coach Maciej, who is in the middle of an interview.
