[Hisashi Tsuchida Sports Director (SD)]

“Happy New Year. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to attend the inaugural press conference for Maciej Skorza.

First, I would like to briefly introduce Director Skorja. Skorza has a long career as a coach mainly in Poland, playing aggressive football in the Polish league and winning many titles. Urawa Reds Maciej decided that it is time to move on to the next step in building a team style based on the concept and creating a team that can produce results.

What we expect from Coach Maciej is that, based on his wonderful personality and career, he will allow each player to demonstrate their individual abilities to the maximum, and as a team, they will be collective and aggressive, take the initiative, and score goals to win. I would like you to develop aggressive soccer aiming for.

This season, together with Coach Maciej, we will fight together as a club. Thank you very much"

[Director Maciej Skorza]

Hello, my name is Maciej Skorza. This is my first job in Japan and I am very honored to be working with this club.

It is a great challenge for us to be able to compete in such a big club, in a league that is very demanding and requires a lot from us. We are also happy to work in a country with such a beautiful culture.

Urawa Reds Saitama is a big club with great fans and supporters. The city of Saitama is also wonderful. I think we have very high expectations and we will fight with ambitious goals. We will have to fight hard to achieve them, but I believe we have the power to do so. To achieve this, the club will work as one to make every effort and build a strong team. I hope to be able to help build such a competitive team.

Urawa Reds If you are a coach or a player, or a member of a team, it is your duty to set a big goal. And for us, that means winning the championship. It will be very difficult and demanding, but we will take it one step at a time.

First of all, we will play six practice matches in the six weeks of preseason to prepare for the FC Tokyo match. So what we need to do now is to prepare the best we can.

Today we had our first practice of the season and I think it felt very good. I think our road to success has now begun."

[Q&A]
(Maciej I would like to ask the director. I know the fans and supporters are expecting you to win the J1 League, but what do you think Urawa Reds needs to do to win the J1 League this season?)
Maciej Skorza Director.
First of all, we need to build a strong team. This is about organization. Second, we need to get to know each other and my philosophy, my assistant coaches, etc. as quickly as possible with the players. Then I want to instill my ideas and philosophy into this team.

As SD Tsuchida said, I am a coach who wants to dominate the game with an aggressive style. Of course it will be tough for the players, but I want to make sure that the team develops in the initial preparation and is ready to take on that challenge. Of course, there will be good times and difficult times in the long season, but that is also soccer. The important thing is to have a team that can show a strong mental state in the locker room. Without that, we will not be able to achieve our goals.

I talked to the players today about the importance of team spirit, and we want to create an atmosphere where we can approach each game as a solid victory, one game at a time. We are looking for that kind of hungry spirit."

(Maciej I would like to ask the director and the football headquarters. You mentioned earlier to the director 'to be a strong team', what does a strong team and good players mean to the director? For the head of the football headquarters, the director mentioned the organization part, but as the 3-year plan phase is over and we move on, I would like to hear your thoughts on how you will reinforce the team in the future and how the organization is progressing at this point).
Maciej Skorza Director
I think this is a very interesting question. I have a few rules in my philosophy, even in my former club. The first one is that you have to control the game. This requires a positive attitude and bravery at all times. Urawa Reds One of the points I would like to change at the club is that I would like to increase the high press. If we lose the ball, we want to get it back as quickly as possible, preferably near the opponent's penalty area. Of course, there are many elements to doing this, and I could go on and on if I expand on this theme, but first of all, I want to convey this to the team before you, and I don't want to share it with the opposing coach, so I won't expand on it any further. I think the mental and physical part is very important. Without these parts, I don't think our philosophy and tactics will permeate."

Tsuchida SD
In 2020, when Tsutomu Nishino (Technical Director Tsutomu Nishino) and I were appointed to this position, we launched a three-year plan, and I spoke in front of you about building a team that can produce results while expressing the concept in three years' time.

As a result, the reality is that we have not been able to penetrate the concept very well. Last season, our third season of results, we finished 9th in the league, and I am very sorry for that. On the other hand, we made it to the finals of the ACL tournament, and I believe that we have prepared the stage to compete in the finals this season.

We have been building a team based on our concept and team style, and we will continue to do so. We will continue to build a more aggressive and attractive team in the future.

As for the status of player contracts, please allow me to answer that we will continue to do this as long as the window is still open.

(Maciej Ask the director. What is your own personality and character?)
Maciej Skorza Director.
It is a difficult question, to describe myself. What I can say to you all is what my friends say about me.

They say, 'I'm the opposite of a private person and a locker room person. They tell me that in the locker I am a tough coach, but in private I am a very friendly person. I think this is normal for a director in this world. And I think that part of my personality and character is my strong point."

(Maciej I ask the director. There are many ways to dominate the game, but what does it mean to dominate and control the game in a director's mind?)
Maciej Skorza Director.
I think it is important to maintain the structure of the team. You need to be in a situation where each player knows what he or she needs to do in any given situation at any given time. We also need to be able to anticipate and react even faster. I think it is also important to switch between losing the ball and winning it back, and I want to make sure the players understand this in Okinawa.
