Zion Suzuki Message/Comment at the Ceremony

[Message during the ceremony]
"Good evening, everyone. I have decided to transfer to Sint-Truiden VV in the Belgian league. To be honest, when I leave this club, my goal is to defend the goal as a defender on this pitch and win the title. I am extremely disappointed that I have not been able to achieve this goal. However, I have been at this big club for about 11 years and have been supported by many staff, players, fans and supporters. I believe that I have been able to grow so far not only as a soccer player but also as a person.

I had a lot of trouble deciding on this transfer. However, I felt that it was very important for me to be able to express myself through my plays on the pitch. In the end, I made up my mind and decided to make this transfer. I would like to compete on pitches around the world so that people think this transfer was a good thing.

I will continue to fight to become and continue to be the goal for the players in the academy.

Urawa Reds are currently in a very important period of time as they look to win the league title. I would be happy if you could continue to support me and show some concern for me.

I hope that one day I will be able to play for this club, on this pitch, guard the goal mouth with Urawa Reds Reds emblem on my back, and once again pursue the goals that I have not been able to achieve until now, with pride as an Urawa native on pitches around the world. I will fight for it.

Thank you very much for the past 11 years. I'm going! ”

[Comments after the ceremony]
(I would like to hear about your decision to transfer again.)
“I came here with the aim of participating in matches and winning titles with this club.I decided to transfer without being able to achieve that goal, but I personally feel that this is a step up as I aim to become the best in the world. I have decided to transfer to

(Why did you choose Sint-Truiden VV?)
``I think the Belgian league is a very high-level league, and Schmidt Daniel, who is also the goalkeeper for the Japanese national team, plays there.I thought we could compete at a high level there as well, I think that if I play in the Belgian league and do well, I will attract the attention of other clubs. When I thought about my dreams, I decided to play in the Belgian league.''

(What is your impression of the Belgian league?)
“There are many Japanese players in Sint-Truiden VV, but the presence of Japanese players does not change anything. It is a matter of how you can express yourself in the high level of the Belgian league. I think there will be competition even after I go there, but I want to play well.”

(What kind of existence does Urawa Reds Zion Suzuki have for Ayane Suzuki?)
"I don't think I would be where I am today without this club. I am filled with gratitude, and I will continue to work hard to express my gratitude through results."

(What kind of player do you want to become in the future?)
``First of all, I think it's important to step up step by step, and I want to keep playing in games and work hard to achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League.''

(You mentioned that your dream is to play in the Premier League, but even though the name Manchester United FC came up as a possible transfer destination, why did you choose the Belgian league?)
``It is true that I received an offer from Manchester United FC.I was very hesitant about this decision. As a soccer player and as a person, if I didn't think about it, of course I wanted to go to Manchester United FC.'' I have made this decision after taking some time to think about what kind of future awaits me."

(Did it take you a while to make a decision?)
``It was my own opinion, and there were also discussions between clubs, so there were some things that took a really long time, but in the end I made the decision based on my own will, so I want to play without regrets.''

(What have you learned or grown during your 11 years with the Reds?)
``While playing soccer at this club, I am proud of the fact that I have always aimed for higher heights from practice.I believe that I have grown as a person at this club, and I believe that I will face many obstacles in my future life.'' However, I believe that the experience I have here will definitely help me in that way, so I would like to connect the past 11 years to my future."

(What kind of person was Shusaku Nishikawa?)
“It was something I had to overcome.Honestly, I wanted to surpass it again this time and participate in the game before transferring, but since I wasn’t able to achieve that goal, I am acutely aware of my lack of ability.Right now, Even if I can't surpass it, I definitely want to surpass it someday, and I want to do my best to surpass it."

(What does Zion Suzuki think are the conditions for a successful goalkeeper overseas?)
"I think he's a goalkeeper who can do everything well. He's a goalkeeper who can do everything well, such as in the high-level Premier League. He's also good at aerial battles, his technique with his feet, how he responds to shots, and everything else is at a high level, so I think he'll be able to do that in one game. I think it's very important to see how high you can perform during the competition."

(Various Japanese goalkeepers such as Eiji Kawashima, Daniel Schmidt, and Kosuke Nakamura have tried their hand at overseas competitions. Have you learned anything from watching them or have you learned from them yourself?)
``While many players are active overseas, being a goalkeeper is a really difficult position, and as of right now, I haven't been able to play in Japan, so I received this offer. I think there will be a really tough battle ahead in these areas. There is no Japanese goalkeeper who has played an active role in the Premier League yet, so I would like to steadily advance step by step to become one of the first.''

(Did you receive any advice from senior Japanese goalkeepers overseas?)
``Although I have not specifically asked anyone about this transfer, I have had the opportunity to talk to players such as Eiji Kawashima in the past, and I have their contact information, so I am someone who I can talk to anytime. I want to grow while listening to your stories.”

(I think language is very important for goalkeepers, but how far have you progressed in your studies and what is your current state?)
``I've been studying the language hard for situations like this.At first I couldn't speak it, but now I feel confident even in competitions. In the future, if I actually go overseas, I'll improve even more. I'm sure there are some areas where I can still speak English, but I think I'm at a level now where I can speak English well in a game.I started speaking English about two years ago.''

(What did Shusaku Nishikawa and goalkeeper coach Joan Millet say to you after the transfer was decided?)
``Joan (Galkeeping Coach Millet) said to me, ``I wish I had learned a little more over here,'' but in the end he said that he respects my decision.I myself was determined. I was able to make a decision, and I have really grown in the past year and a half that I learned from Joanne, so I would like to put that learning to use and be active overseas.

Nishikawa didn't say anything to me earlier, but he told me earlier, ``Just remember to have fun and fight,'' so I'll do exactly what he said.''

(What kind of person was Hitoshi Shiota, GK assistant coach?)
``He was the first person I ever played with as a player, and also as a coach, and he was always by my side as a close person to the players. He was also someone I could talk to, and I was able to learn a lot of things from him. I hope I can repay those people with results."

(You said you wanted to play in the Premier League someday, but did you think it was too early for you to make this decision even though you had the chance to play in the Premier League?)
``Well, when I looked ahead, and I wasn't playing in Japan right now, and Manchester United FC acquired Andre Onana, I thought whether I was at a level where I could play.'' There's no doubt that both clubs are great, so even if I can't go to them now, I definitely want to go to them in a few years, so I decided to make this transfer in order to steadily step up. I have decided.”

(I think playing an active role on the national team for each generation was a big factor in your current transfer, but considering your career, how do you hope to play on the national team?)
``I saw in some reports that he was transferring for the Paris Olympics, but that's a slightly different story.I'm not transferring because of the Paris Olympics; I am aiming to become the best in the world after that.I would like to say here that it is a mistake to say that I decided to transfer just because it was for the Paris Olympics. The Paris Olympics is an important event for me, so I don't think my goals will change."

(I think it's a risky move if you're aiming for the Paris Olympics, but how do you want to spend this year?)
``Anyway, it's important for me to participate in matches, and I think it's important to play on the world stage, so I think there will be some really tough battles ahead, but I want to use what I've learned here to do my best.'' think"

(In your 11 years playing for the Reds, what was the most memorable game or something you would like to take with you as a fond memory?)
“I made my debut in the J League against Vegalta Sendai two years ago. When I was 11 years old, I dreamed of seeing the atmosphere of this stadium and the players, so I joined Urawa Reds Juniors, and it was my dream to make my debut at this stadium. We were able to do it. When we won without conceding a goal, I was glad that I had been here since I was a junior, and it was a moment that made me realize once again how big this club is."

(What kind of feelings did you feel as you walked around the stadium?)
``I don't think it's very common for people to respond like this, and I feel like they expected Urawa Reds won't be the next team, but I believe that playing on pitches around the world will increase the value of the Reds.'' So I want to fight as a Urawa person."

(Sint-Truiden VV also has players Rihito Yamamoto and Joe Chima Fujita, who are from the same Paris Olympics generation, but have you spoken to them since the transfer was decided?)
"We haven't talked about anything in particular. I think we'll be able to communicate even more if we have a chance to compete in Belgium at the same time. The stage will be Belgium, not Japan, so I hope we can compete with them on a world-class basis."

(It seems that fans and supporters of Yokohama F・Marinos were calling out to you as you went around the stadium, but what did they say to you?)
“I was happy because they told me to do my best.”

(He became the first Urawa Reds Junior player to sign a professional contract, and the banner behind the goal said, ``You will protect the goal and the future of the young Reds.'' However, he also felt that he was going to take on the challenge overseas with the Reds on his back.) Is there one?)
``When I was thinking about transferring, I couldn't think of playing for any other club in Japan other than this club. The transfer itself was a difficult decision, but over the course of 11 years, I was supported by many people. I believe that I have been able to do so by applying this experience to the players in the training organization, and I believe that how I perform will have a bearing on the future of those players. From now on, I want to carry the thoughts of various people on my shoulders as I fight.”

(What are your goals for this season since going to Sint-Truiden VV?)
“The season has started and today is the second game, but of course I need to be in good condition so I can play in the game as soon as possible, but I also think it’s important to get used to the team’s soccer first. I am transferring to compete at a high level, so I want to focus on achieving that goal first, and I want to do my best to achieve the team's goals.''
