Per-Mathias Hoegmo manager, press conference after the match against Iwata
Meiji Yasuda J1 League Round 15 match Jubilo Iwata Post-match comments
"First of all, I would like to thank Jubilo Iwata for today's match. Thank you very much.
As I said to the players earlier, I think they played a really good game from the start to the end. I think we were able to completely control the game. And during that time, I think Naoki (Maeda) and Thiago (Santana) created some good chances. And we were able to take a 1-0 lead.
If we had been leading 1-0, I think the opponent would have been able to push forward and go for the second and third goals, but we gave the ball away to the opponent right after that, which led to us conceding goals. If there is anything I can point out about today's game, it's that we tried to play a little too narrowly. That's where we conceded the goals.
Although our decisiveness was not the best today, we were able to come very close to scoring. We want to continue to improve the way we play. We want to do that in every aspect, and I think the content of today's game was very good to watch.
【Question-and-answer session】
(It seemed like Iwata was okay with a 0-0 draw.)
"The opponents were in a 4-4-2 formation and played a bit defensively. At halftime I told the players to 'keep the ball moving'. And from that I think we were able to create chances both before and after scoring. We were able to break through especially on the right wing.
However, as in the previous match, we are facing consecutive matches against teams that have lost three in a row. These teams are playing desperately, so it was a tough match for us. I would like to praise the efforts of the opposing team.
(Shoya Nakajima seems to be improving a lot. I get the impression that he has changed and that the Reds are becoming a team for him.)
"I think that's a very good point. He's a very creative player. His physical condition has improved considerably now, and he's in very good shape. Today he only had one assist, but he also lost the ball, so I think it's 1-1.
He has been very good for us, but maybe he was a little tired in today's game, and it seemed like he was using his first choice every time, instead of using his second or third choice, which he is capable of.
But he’s gotten a lot better throughout this season, so it’s been good to see.”
