To everyone attending today
Thank you very much for coming to the 2024 Meiji Yasuda J1 League Round 28 match between Urawa Reds and Kawasaki Frontale today, despite the bad weather.
Furthermore, due to the bad weather, there were delays in opening the stadium and the match was ultimately cancelled. We would like to offer our sincere apologies to everyone who attended today, as well as to the fans and supporters of both clubs and football fans who were looking forward to the match.
Although no lightning had been confirmed at the time the decision to cancel the match was made, there had been intermittent heavy rain causing water to accumulate on the pitch, which posed a very high risk of injury to players. As such, we made this decision to protect the condition of the players from both clubs.
Well over 40,000 people purchased tickets to today's game, and as it was the last home game of the summer vacation, this included many children and their parents who were looking forward to taking part in the "Honobi" event.
I know from experience how difficult it can be to watch a soccer game while holding a small child's hand.
In these circumstances, we have had to make significant cuts to programs such as "Enjitsu," for which we sincerely apologize.
While the weather itself is something we cannot control, we recognize that there is still room for improvement through our own efforts in terms of how we respond to those who traveled to Saitama Stadium in bad weather.
We sincerely hope that such an incident will not occur again, and all club staff will carefully review how we responded to inclement weather over the past few games and strive to improve.
Finally, for those of you who visited us today, we are aware that on your way home you may find the ground to be slippery in some places.
Please be careful on your way home.
