Maciej Skorza post-match press conference after the match against FC Tokyo
Meiji Yasuda J1 League Round 20 match against FC Tokyo [MATCH PARTNER Mitsubishi Motors] Post-match comments
"We were unable to find our rhythm from the start of the match. I think we were quite nervous early on. Perhaps the injury to our captain, (Sakai) Hiroki, played a part. We were unable to speed up our build-up play, which made it easy for the opponents to predict. I think the most dangerous moment for the opponents in the first half was when (Koroki) Shinzo hit the post with his shot.
In the second half, we tried to speed up the game. However, FC Tokyo was very aggressive and showed solid defense, so we were unable to create any clear scoring opportunities. We ended up with two strikers at the top, but we were unable to make good passes into the penalty area to take advantage of their power. It was a very disappointing result, and the locker room was silent. We wanted to play well today and bring three points to the nearly 50,000 fans and supporters who came to the game. I believe you all continued to support us throughout the game.
I think the players did their best. They did a job worthy of respect, but I think they are feeling a bit tired after playing so many games in a row."
[Question-and-answer session]
(Was it because the opponent's defense was good that they couldn't create any scoring chances in the second half, or was there something the Reds were lacking?)
"I think there wasn't much movement up front today. There wasn't much rotation, with players switching positions. That was a bit of a surprise to me."
(How is Hiroki Sakai doing?)
"There isn't much information right now. I'm heading to the hospital to have a detailed check. Akimoto Takahiro was injured, and now Hiroki Sakai is injured. It's an unfortunate situation with so many important players injured."
(You were trying to pass the ball to your opponents, who were pressing you forward, instead of aiming for their backs.)
"One of our aims is to use the space between the opposing defence lines. However, if we get the ball there, the next play has to be aimed at the back. If we don't have the movement to get behind them, we won't be able to pass the ball behind them. I think that kind of movement was lacking in today's game."
(Did you feel that your team lacked intensity around the ball in today's game?)
"I had the same impression. I would like to check the training load over the past week. We may have been putting too much strain on the players. In today's match, we didn't show much strength in the ball area or in the high pressure from the start, so perhaps the training structure was poor."
