Ogiwara: “It was my dream to score a goal at Saitama Stadium.”
After the Meiji Yasuda Seimei J1 League Section 30 Kashiwa Reysol game [MATCH PARTNER J:COM] on March 20, Takuya Ogiwara talked about his thoughts on his first goal in the J1 League and Saitama Stadium at Urawa Reds and his enthusiasm for the future.
It was my goal and dream to score a goal at Saitama Stadium. I was able to achieve it. I think it is wonderful for me as an individual and as a team to be able to perform like this in the next game after we had a good game against Yokohama F・Marinos in the (YBC) Lewan Cup, while we still have a chance to win the championship in the last stage of the season.
(How did you feel after scoring?)
(How did you feel after scoring?) "I don't know. (laughs) I felt refreshed.
(Did you have no choice but to shoot the goal?)
(Was shooting the only option for the goal?) "The moment I received the pass, I had one choice. The pass said, 'Shoot! So I was thinking only of shooting.
(Did you aim for the opposite side of the net?)
(Did you aim for the opposite side of the net? I aimed at the net by stepping in and out. It's the best when I can make a solid decision like that and play without thinking about the rest.
(Do you do this in practice?) "No, I don't. I don't play like that in practice.
(Do you practice this kind of game?) "No, I don't. We don't practice situations like that.
(When did you dream of scoring a goal at Saitama Stadium?)
When I was in the academy. I wanted to become a professional since I put on the Reds emblem, and it was my dream to score a goal at Saitama Stadium.
(It took a long time, but how happy are you with that?)
I don't really know. I don't really feel it. Whenever I score a goal, I don't really feel it, and even after the game, I feel very flustered.
(He was caught with a hand in the first game against Yokohama F・Marinos in the YBC Lewan Cup and seemed to be reluctant to play after that, but he seemed to have changed his mind from the second game and was even more positive today. How have you been feeling for the last 10 days or so?)
I think the part you can see is true, but in terms of the feeling of what I am doing, it is rather the opposite. I was able to be positive and show quality from that game, and I was able to fight and not lose to the opponent through the first game. I thought it was all about the hands, so even after the match was over, there was no element of pessimism at all, and I was able to play the second round and today with a good feeling. I don't want to use a simple word like "confidence," but I have come to realize that the growth I felt in the first game was correct.
(You scored two goals in your first-team debut (against Nagoya Grampus in the 2018 YBC Lewan Cup), and this was your first league goal for Reds in over five years.)
I was involved in the game at the time, and I thought lightly, 'I'll be able to score one day. I was on a temporary transfer, and in that sense, it wasn't easy. Urawa Reds I think it is exceptional for me to score a goal in the first round of the tournament.
(It seems that the strength of your feelings has come to carry over into your play in a positive way.)
(Does it seem that the strength of your feeling has come to be reflected in your play in a positive way? I don't feel like I'm spinning my wheels, but I did have a sense that things weren't quite right. I was able to be involved in the game for a long time while working in that situation, but recently I feel that I have been able to clarify a solid weapon within myself.
(Do you see anything that might change with this goal?)
(Do you think this goal will change anything?) "I won't know until I spend some time in the future, but I think it was a game in which I can think of that moment as a turning point. I think the value of today's game will change depending on how I can continue to perform in the future. In a sense, I want to be able to continue these few games for months and years to come. Of course there will be bad games and I will play badly, but I want to improve my overall average and my value."
(You once said that "there are not that many players who come back from deadline transfers and are active," but now you are definitely on the path to being active, aren't you?)
(You once said, "There are not many players who have come back from a time-limited transfer and are playing an active role. Especially coming back to Reds after having established yourself with another team, Reds is a special club, a big club, and in that sense, I myself felt that the fundamental aspects of adapting and playing in games were also difficult. At the beginning of the season, I was not involved in any games, and I strongly felt that I did not want to have such a professional career. It's not over yet, but looking back, I think I'm having a good season.
(You said that one of your dreams was to score a goal at Saitama Stadium, but what is your next dream or goal?)
(You said scoring a goal at Saitama Stadium was one of your dreams. After becoming a professional player, I would like to play overseas. Also, my goal is to represent Japan and play in the World Cup with the Japanese flag on my back, so I feel like I am taking one step at a time toward that goal. I feel that I am definitely following that process since I left on a temporary transfer, and I think that this season has given me more depth in my soccer career.
(There are league and YBC Lewan Cup finals coming up, what does this victory bring to the table for you there?)
(What will this win bring for the league and YBC Lewan Cup finals? This will not change even if the title is on the line, and I have a sense of confidence that comes from every game. I hope that little by little, through accumulation, this will lead to that part.
