Sekine: “I feel like it’s building up.”
On the 23rd, after the match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Round 1 of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, Takahiro Sekine talked about his thoughts after the opening game of this season and his future struggles.
(Looking back at the match)
“We weren't able to create time to attack with the players in front of us. There were a lot of situations where the players in front of us were on our backs and receiving the ball. When we were good, we were often able to move forward and get the ball to our feet and set up a setup. I realized in today's match that how much the players in front of you can help the team when things are not going well is very important."
(In the first 15 minutes or so, we created several chances, including a disappointing shot from Yoshio Koizumi.)
``That's right. It was the same with the scene where I entered the near field, but I wish I could have visualized that kind of scene and created it throughout the match. My impression is that the players were tired and couldn't move forward well."
(Especially in the beginning of the second half, we felt like we were trapped by the opponent's high press. How did the team intend to break free?)
“I think one of the reasons was that we became more aware of the need to connect, and our positioning gradually deteriorated. The players in front of us were tense, but the No. 8 (inside half) player Our players were dropping off more and more, and we were destroying the space in front of us.I think the fact that we conceded a goal in the first half also contributed to our impatience.''
(Coach Per-Mathias Hoegmo says he wants to dominate, but I think there is a way to fight by not only having the ball, but also kicking it in behind to some extent and making use of the wingers who have good players.)
“Yes, I think we could have done more of that. However, throughout the preseason so far, there have been times when we have been able to pick off opponents without having to create such scenes, and we can all share that image. However, in the meeting, we talked about how it was 7-on-7 in our own territory, or 3-on-3 in the enemy's territory, and that we wanted to be able to outmaneuver the opponent. That means it didn't work out because I was doing it."
(All opening games have been scoreless since 2022, resulting in three consecutive losses)
``I feel like I'm making progress, so I think it's going to get better and better, and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of solution I can come up with next time against these types of opponents. I hope I can grow one day, and I feel like I'm growing."
(There was a scene where Thiago Santana was crushed, but was there a problem in this system where the center forward was isolated when the inside half started to drop?)
“It would be best if it could be settled there, but if that is not possible, then I think the wing will have to do something about it.I think it would be better if everyone could sort out the solution a little more clearly while considering the priorities. I think it was good.”
