Thiago: “I want to contribute even more to the team from now on.”
On April 3rd, after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League Round 6 match against FC Tokyo, Thiago Santana, who scored his second consecutive goal, spoke about his goals and his future plans.
(You scored your first goal of the season in the previous match. Did that give you a different feeling going into the match?)
"It's been hard to score up until now, so today's goal was very important to me. However, I'm on a new team with new teammates this year, so it took some time, but I want to contribute even more to the team from now on, and I think I'll be the one to score goals."
(As for the scoring scene, did you know the timing of the opposing goalkeeper coming forward through analysis or did you observe during the game and have an image of it in your mind at that moment?)
"I knew from the analysis that I would be involved in the build-up. But as for the goal, the moment I saw him coming forward, I made the decision on my own."
(He dribbled about 20 meters, but had he already decided to shoot with that first step?)
"Hiroki Sakai passed the ball to me, and at first I was going to pass it to Ken Iwao. However, before I could make the pass, the ball bounced once, and when I looked ahead while I was dribbling, I saw the goalkeeper there, so I made the decision."
Have you ever made a longer shot?
"I think this was my longest shot. I've tried that way a few times before, but this was the first time it went in."
