Linssen: "Even on the bench, we are one"

On the 15th, after the 18th round match of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League Cerezo Osaka, Bryan Linssen spoke about his thoughts on scoring his first goal of the season.

(He scored a great goal from a cross by Hidetoshi Takeda.)
"It was a fantastic cross. I started to move towards the far post and the ball came to me at the perfect time, and all I had to do was head it in."

(You've always wanted a ball like that, haven't you?)
"Yes, I'd like to play more games. I'm not very tall, but heading is one of my strong points, so I'd like to get more balls like that."

(Cerezo OSAKA had a two-goal lead and had a lot of players in front of the goal, so how did he get free?)
"I looked for space, looked around carefully to see where I could run, where I could get free, and I think I was able to find my own space well."

(I think a great kicker like Takeda could be a good partner for Linssen.)
"Of course, there are players who can kick well, but I think they should do it more. Sometimes, even if we are in a good position, we often drop the ball rather than trying to go forward, but if we try, I think it will lead to more goals."

(At the end, you were trying to create a situation that would allow Takeda to make a cross, but if you have a player like him, do you move in line with that?)
"Yes, I repeatedly told Hide (Hidetoshi Takeda) to 'put the ball in.' And of course I told (Sakai) Hiroki to 'if you have a chance, put in a cross.' But today it wasn't enough."

(Even after the goal, did you think there were times when you could have put in more crosses?)
"There were a lot of opportunities to improve."

(Did they switch to a two-top formation after Shinzo Koroki joined the team?)
"Yes, we played with two strikers, with me a little further forward and Shinzo (Koroki) following me. However, as I said before, it wasn't enough."

(Two substitutes scored goals though?)
"We are one, even on the bench. When we are on the pitch, we can make a difference, and sometimes the players on the bench can help the players who are in the starting lineup."

(I think he wants to be in the starting line-up, but by coming on as a substitute and producing results, doesn't that give the team momentum?)
"I don't think that's the case. First of all, I need to get fitter. I haven't played in a long time, so I want to get more playing time and get my body in shape. Whether it's Thiago (Santana), Shinzo, or myself, the player who's in good form should play. And the players who play, or who come on as a substitute, just need to do their job well."
