7th year of “Human Rights/Global Seminar” held at Urawa Gakuin High School

On October 4th, Urawa Reds held a ``Human Rights and Global Seminar'' at Urawa Gakuin High School. Under the theme of ``100 Years of Saitama Soccer, Urawa Reds, and SPORTS FOR PEACE!'', we raised awareness to eradicate discrimination through the activities of Urawa Reds and soccer.

The seminar has been held every year since 2017 for all second-year students, and teaches the importance of making decisions based on knowledge and thinking, and of being tolerant of diversity, in order to eradicate discrimination. The importance of this is conveyed through examples from the sports world. The initiative has been reported to the United Nations Headquarters, and has also been featured as a practical example of respecting the human rights of foreigners by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

At the lecture, students learned about the local specialties of Saitama City, where the school is located, as part of their regional study of Saitama City. Among other topics, he talked about the origins of ``Urawa, the City of Soccer'' and the reason for the existence of Urawa Reds, which is ``bringing happiness to the community through sports.'' Then, trends in acts of discrimination around the world will be introduced through events in sports and soccer. In order for our students to engage in global activities in the future, we will need ``to know and to think for ourselves.'' Above all, understanding and tolerance towards diversity is important.''

The Reds and Urawa Gakuin High School will enter into a business partnership in 2022, and in addition to strengthening their existing activities, the Reds and Urawa Gakuin High School will continue to implement ``community contribution activities in sports, education, culture, etc.'' as stated in the agreement. I am planning to go.

``At the human rights/global seminar, which is now in its seventh year, we want people to first get to know Urawa and Saitama cities, where they are studying, and to maintain an understanding and attachment to their hometowns even after they graduate. Regarding eradication, since the target audience is second-year students who are about to go on a school trip abroad, we once again reported on the current state of discrimination issues around the world. In the future, we will continue to focus on explaining the facts rather than telling people what not to do. I would like to convey this message with an emphasis on enlightening people by encouraging them to learn more, think for themselves, and act on their own."
