Per-Mathias Hoegmo manager, press conference after the Niigata match
Meiji Yasuda J1 League, No.13 Comment after the game against Albirex Niigata
First of all, I would like to thank Albirex Niigata for playing a great team. I would also like to congratulate Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Urawa Reds Ladies for becoming the Asian Champions yesterday.
Before the match, I asked the players to be alert and to have a high level of awareness. I also asked them to be patient, to play without hesitation, and to be disciplined. Today, I think we controlled the game from the start. We created very good chances, and Thiago (Santana) scored a goal from a good run. After that, Niigata had more time to play, but we also created chances on the counter.
In the second half, the second and third goals were scored, and I think we were in complete control of the game. But instead of making it 3-0 to 4-0, we made it 3-1 from a lost ball, which made our opponents more powerful. Niigata is a team that can make chances when they have the ball, and we must not let them do so, but there were times like that today.
We changed the formation to 5-3-2 at the end, and I think Book (Ekanit Panya) did a good job of pressing in that situation. I want to thank the players for the good job they did today, and I also want to thank all the wonderful fans and supporters who came out here to support us.
In our last away game against Kawasaki Frontale we played a very good first half, but we could not score (only) one goal. Today, we are happy that we were able to score and win again in a good start and bring home three points to play Kyoto Sanga F.C. at home.
We were able to play in a great atmosphere today with many fans and supporters from both clubs, and it was a match where we saw the strength of the J-League.
[Q&A
(The goal was scored when the opponent easily crossed the ball to you and you met it. How can we correct the problem?)
We gave our opponents chances from crosses, especially today. This has never happened in our previous games, so today was the first game in which we saw a lot of this type of behavior. We went to three backs at the end to consolidate in front of the goal."
